ALA Chicago migrated its remaining three listservs (CHI-SMALLFIRM, CHI-MIDSIZE, CHI-LARGEFIRM) to the ALA Online Community effective Monday, July 1, 2019.
The forums are similar to the Chapter’s existing listservs. However, they are hosted by ALA national as an “online community.” Online communities are a free benefit that ALA national provides to local chapters. This new platform is very user-friendly, with quite a bit of functionality including a robust historical search function for posts and the ability to share files. As with the Chapter’s existing listservs, care should be taken to consider antitrust regulations when posting to the new forums.
Members have been automatically subscribed to the Chicago Chapter General Discussion Forum and while you may unsubscribe from this at any time, we encourage you to remain in this forum as this tool will be used to communicate with all GCC members moving forward. We are not able to automatically subscribe you to the other three new forums. If you have any questions about subscribing/unsubscribing or using the new ALA Community Forums for the Greater Chicago Chapter, please contact us at email@example.com.

These are more than a Listserv – they are our own online communities where we can share resources, easily access a history of discussions, find members’ contact information, create our own profiles with photo, and more.
A subscription to the Discussion Forums allows you to conveniently receive community posts by email instead of visiting the website Forum every time you want to read discussion threads and post responses. Once you’ve subscribed, the email address for the Discussion Forums are as follows:
