Annual Charity Event
a charity event supporting
On March 12, our ALA Chicago chapter was set to host our annual charity community event in support of My Block, My Hood, My City. Due to the pandemic, the event had to be canceled out of an abundance of caution. However, our goal to impact the community was not lost. Together, through our generous members and business partners, our chapter had the honor of donating $7,500 to this worthy cause on May 15. There was also a need for clothing and the board decided to donate the t-shirts printed for the event to their organization as well.
MBMHMC has made a valiant effort in response to COVID-19. Your generosity is impacting Chicago communities in several ways.
Care packages: Collecting and distributing toilet paper, canned goods, pasta, rice, candy bars, hand sanitizer, hand soap, Emergen-C/Airbourne, and disinfectant wipes/spray.
Wellness checks: Performing wellness check-in calls for seniors
Immediate Care Kits: Providing fresh groceries for youth participants and their families whose households have lost all forms of income. Groceries delivered directly to doorsteps are crucial, and potentially life-saving, during this time.
Here is a note from the founder -
“On behalf of everyone at My Block My Hood My City I want to sincerely thank you for your kind donation. This donation will go a long way in helping out youth and seniors during these unconventional times. Thank you for doing more than is expected...”
Yours in Service,
Founder | CEO
We also received a note from the leaders that were organizing our chapter event:
We'd like to thank the ALA Chicago Chapter for their generous contribution to our Senior Viral Response. These funds go towards the purchase and distribution of staples foods and PPE (masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer). With the help of our volunteers we're serving over 2,000 seniors around Chicagoland. Each care package delivery containing staple foods saves seniors the risk of going to the grocery store for 2 weeks, and each delivery of PPE allows our seniors to continue their lives in the safest way possible, wearing a mask, gloves, and using disinfectant.
Pictured is our part-time program coordinator, Armando Gonzalez who's spent the day organizing our storage unit full of supplies. Behind him is 80 gallons of hand sanitizer, 1,000 masks, and 10,000 gloves. For the next year or more we will be purchasing and collecting these supplies and delivering to seniors in need! Our network of volunteer Wellness Callers ensure we are able to reach those in urgent need first, and allow us to remain in contact and provide emotional support for thousands of seniors.
Thank you again! We look forward to a time we can serve together in-person!
Yours in service,
Casey, Ernesto, and the entire M3 Team.
