My name is: Arielle Sheppard-Potts

I work for: Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila LLP

The firm & practice is: Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila is a national law firm of litigators, trial lawyers, and transactional attorneys.

My title is: Administrative Coordinator.

Before becoming an Administrative Coordinator: I was a Legal Administrative Assistant.

I have been working in the legal field for: 15 years.

I joined the ALA Chicago Chapter because: I wanted the opportunity to connect on a more personal and consistent level with other legal professionals in the Chicagoland area.

To be successful in legal administration:

1) You must be organized, concise and detail orientated.

2) Listen and be willing to be flexible.

3) Be patient and understanding.

The thing I like best about being an Administrative Coordinator is: knowing that my efforts are contributing to the overall success of the firm on a variety of levels daily.

One of the challenges of being in legal administration is: being prepared for anything. Things are ever changing, and you must be able to adapt and shift gears, if needed.

The best advice I've ever received is: to speak my truth, know my worth and own my skillset.

The best advice I would give to someone who is just entering the legal management field is: Listen, take notes, observe and be humble. There are many folks around you who want to see you succeed. Learn from them, accept the constructive criticism and never stop trying to better yourself and your skillset.

I try to motivate my team by: Building a professional foundation based on trust and communication, as well as sharing positive feedback for all that they contribute to the team and the firm.

If I weren't an Administrative Coordinator I would: be an event planner.

The last good book I read was: “Where We Belong” by Emily Giffin.

The last good movie I saw was: Jumanji the Next Level (family movie night!)

My last vacation destination was: Las Vegas.

In my free time, I enjoy: Spending time with my family. Whether it’s game night, a day at the pool or watching a movie. In the fast pace of our day-to-day, I really try to slow down and appreciate the little things.
