New Mandatory Sexual Harassment Training Requirement
On August 9, 2019, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed Senate Bill 75, which established a range of employee protections, related to sexual harassment, transparency and safety. The bill makes several changes effective January 1, 2020. The Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), will produce a model training for the prevention of sexual harassment. The model training will be available to employers and the public. Every employer with employees in Illinois must use the model training or establish a program that “equals or exceeds” the statutory standards for the IDHR’s program. Employers must provide this training at least once a year.
ALA Chicago is pleased to have Walker Lawrence of Levin Ginsburg present a program on this new requirement to the Chapter. With Governor’s Pritzker’s first year in office came new legislation that will require law firms to reevaluate their hiring practices, update their policies, and establish new programs to address sexual harassment in the workplace. Walker will cover a number of the new changes including mandatory sexual harassment training, mandatory disclosure requirements, restrictions on confidentiality agreements, and updating your policies to be prepared for 2020.
